Write for us

We welcome pitches that help readers notice, understand, or enjoy music in a more particular way. A strong proposal has a clear subject, a fresh angle, and a reason it belongs in Spirited Music Journal rather than a general music roundup.

What to pitch

We consider thoughtful explainers, comparisons, histories, listening pieces, and accounts of musical practice or performance. Ideas might focus on one instrument's role, a custom readers can understand in context, or a small but revealing question about how music is made or heard. We do not need a finished article to assess an idea.

What makes a strong proposal

Tell us the proposed subject, your central point, and what readers will be able to understand or notice afterward. Include a brief outline and any sources or access the piece would require. Keep the scope focused, avoid claims broader than the available evidence, and explain any specialist terms a general reader would need.

How to send it

Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option, making clear that your message is a pitch. Please include a short note about your connection to the subject and any relevant published work, if you wish. We cannot promise publication or a particular response time.
